Approx. ascent   --------- 1000 feet over a distance of 3 miles and a further 300 foot over 1/4 mile.
Brief Description  --------- From Hayfield we take the Sett Valley Trail to Birch Vale. We then take the Pennine Bridleway to climb steadily to just below the summit of Lantern Pike and continue to Blackshaw Farm. A further mile then to Hollingworth Farm. From there we cross the A624 and take the path parallel to the road and then across Middle Moor to the shooting cabin. Here we join the Snake Path back downhill into Hayfield.

Brief Description  --------- The walk starts in the Sett Valley Trail car park and proceeds along the disused railway line towards New Mills. On reaching Birch Vale we turn right and after visiting the cafe on Station Road, we proceed into Spinnerbottom, Stich Lane, Aspinall Road leading to Aspenshaw Hall for a short break. The Buckleys were the original owners of the 18th centuryAspenshaw Hall, who pioneered the opening up of mills and manufacturing in this area around the River Sett. Returning on to Swallow House Lane via Laneside Road and back in to Hayfield, via Chapel House Lane and returning to the coach, to change for the meal at the Royal Hotel.
